There has been a building on the Riverside site in Eynsford
since the 1400s. Care has been taken to maintain the integrity
of the building, Forge House, during refurbishment – the wonderfully
warped leaded light windows are still very much a feature.
Proprietor Khalid Ahmed has gone to great lengths to ensure
that every element of The Watermark experience complements
the quality of the food. The native Thai chef is cordon bleu
trained and the waiting staff have worked at top hotels and
restaurants in London and Bangkok.
Located in the plentiful garden of England, the plan was always
to use local produce where possible. Apart from supporting
local businesses and farmers, Khalid aimed to lighten The
Watermark’s carbon footprint. The stationery and marketing
materials are printed on recycled or sustainable paper using
vegetable-based inks. An in-house recycling policy is also
in place.
